  1. SHRED (VERSION 1.0) destroys sensitive or
  2. secret files on-disk so they can't be
  3. recovered by any means.  When it is deleted,
  4. a file normally is not physically destroyed,
  5. only its directory entry is removed. Nor does
  6. reformatting a disk destroy the files,
  7. either. SHRED however makes sure files are
  8. obliterated by overwriting the files you
  9. specify with zeros.
